Abstract
This chapter investigates the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on accounting practices within the telecommunications industry, with a particular focus on two major players: Comcast and T-Mobile. As these companies manage vast volumes of financial transactions and operate in a highly dynamic, data-intensive environment, the integration of AI technologies has become essential for maintaining operational efficiency, financial accuracy, and strategic agility. This chapter explores how AI is being leveraged to automate routine accounting tasks, enhance fraud detection mechanisms, improve financial forecasting, ensure regulatory compliance, and support strategic financial planning. Through case study analysis and data visualization, this chapter provides a comprehensive examination of AI’s role in reshaping accounting functions. It highlights how machine learning algorithms, robotic process automation (RPA), and predictive analytics are being deployed to streamline processes, reduce human error, and generate actionable insights from complex datasets. The case studies of Comcast and T-Mobile illustrate real-world implementations of these technologies, showcasing both the measurable benefits and the operational challenges encountered during adoption. This chapter addresses broader implications of AI integration, including ethical considerations, data governance, and the evolving role of accounting professionals. Issues such as algorithmic transparency, bias in financial decision-making, and the need for upskilling the workforce are critically examined. The discussion is contextualized within the broader landscape of digital transformation in the telecommunications sector, offering insights into how AI is not only enhancing accounting efficiency but also contributing to strategic competitiveness.
