Before proceeding to focus on inclusive education and related concepts and issues, it is important to begin by considering the multifaceted nature of the concept of education itself, as this has some bearing on how SDG Four would be pursued. Whilst many might think solely of education as something that takes place formally at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, education is actually lifelong learning that takes place in formal, non-formal and informal contexts. Buckler and Creech (2014) differentiate between these various contexts as follows:

Buckler and Creech (2014, p. 20) further categorise training as those organised activities which aim to impart ‘information and/or instructions to improve the recipient’s performance or to help him or her attain a required level of knowledge or skill’.
