Chapter Eleven: Conceptual Framework for Sustainable Urban Governance and Planning in Sustainable Urban Transformation Implementation in Developing Countries

Sustainable urban governance and planning (SUG&P) within the context of sustainable urban transformation (SUT) in developing countries introduces a novel conceptual framework for SUG&P based on the synthesis of various theories and models in the field. This framework is structured around seven key constructs: leadership commitment (LC), good governance principles (GGP), green economy (GE), built environment (BE), cultural identity (CI), historical antecedent (HA), and urban stakeholder management (USM). The chapter details the components of LC, emphasizing the necessity of government leadership in achieving SUT and outlining key elements like sustainable vision, actions, impact, and organizational establishment. GGP are explored, highlighting the application of accountability, equity, health, safety, security, and participatory decision-making in urban governance.
