This chapter gives the benefits of big data analytics in tourism and challenges of big data in the tourism sector. This study discusses about the applications of big data in the tourism sector and also discusses about the future strategies used for big data in the tourism sector. Big Data Analytics in Predicting Tourist Preferences Based on Hotel Ratings also finds the research gap and finally concludes with the chapter summary.
Watson (2014) referred to big data as a phrase that is employed to explain data that have greater velocity, greater volume and/or greater variety which needs new techniques and technologies to analyze, capture and store it. It is also used to offer discovery and insight, improve decision-making and optimize and assist processes. Similarly, in Datascience101 (2015), big data is referred as the amount of data, velocity of acquisition or representation of data restricts the capability to carry out efficient examination using traditional relational methods or needs the usage of essential scaling for effective processing.
