8: Conclusion

This chapter concludes the book with a recap of the key points, explaining how the landscape of higher education (HE) is changing through digital transformation. This conclusion will acknowledge that the identity of the academic is always changing and will continue to do so. The speed and scope of digital transformation in the HE sector have increased due to the rapid developments in generative artificial intelligence (AI), which has created an identity crisis for academic staff. The concluding chapter of this book will recommend that there should be a focus on the importance of a human-centred approach to AI in HE. The academics remain the subject matter experts guiding students and researchers through the maze of information, misinformation, and big data.
