As we look back and reflect on the knowledge and experience we've shared in this book, we can see that many things make a difference in the success or failure of a collaborative writing group. The 3Cs – COMMON FOCUS, COMMITMENT, AND COMMUNICATION – are the foundation to set a group up for success. The 4Ps – PRIORITIES, PLANS, PROTECTING DEADLINES, AND POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT – are the structure that frames and guides a group's work. The 3Cs and 4Ps are essential, as is attending to the soft side of relationships as you work together. Without these elements, a writing group may suffer from some common pitfalls experienced by collaborative groups.
