This chapter corresponds to clause 4 of EN 1994-1-1. It was clause 2 in the previous Eurocode 4. Its main clauses are as follows.
Clause 4.1 lists the provisions of other EN standards that are required to be followed. EN 1994 is to be used with EN 1990, ‘Basis of structural and geotechnical design’, which recommends values for load factors and gives various possibilities for combinations of actions (BSEN 1990:2023). The values and choice of combinations are given in the national annex for the country in which the structure is to be constructed.
Eurocode 4 is also used in conjunction with relevant Parts of EN 1991, ‘Actions on structures’ (BS EN 1991-1-1:2025) and their national annexes, to determine characteristic or nominal loads. Where a composite structure is to be designed for a seismic region, account needs to be taken of EN 1998, ‘Design of structures for earthquake resistance’, (BSEN 1998-1:2004).
