In this chapter, the authors describe a knowledge society as a complex adaptive and resilient system. A knowledge society grows differently than an industrial society, which is managed, controlled, and directed. The goal of a knowledge society is to be able to adapt to continuous change, continually balancing and reaching a new equilibrium. Equilibrium is achieved through the balancing and rebalancing of people across spaces and places.
