Chapter Summary
This chapter explores the spaces and places of social dining as a third space. Social dining is viewed from the perspective of diners and a community space. The authors acknowledge that places for social dining are also second spaces, that is, where we work. The authors review the knowledge assets, moments, and mobilities of social dining in a range of places. The blueprint of a fast food restaurant is used to calculate spatial syntax metrics. The authors highlight the critical role that social dining plays in a knowledge society.
