This special issue contains selected papers from the Asian Simulation Conference 2008/the 7th International Conference on System Simulation and Scientific Computing (ICSC'2008) held on October 10-12, 2008 in Beijing,China.
The “Asian Simulation Conference” is an annual international conference initiated and organized go-around by three Asian simulation societies– Chinese Association of System Simulation (CASS), Japanese Society for Simulation Technology (JSST), and Korea Society for Simulation (KSS) since 1999.
ICSC'2008 is a part of the “Asian Simulation Conference”. Its theme is “Technology, application, enterprise and education of system simulation and scientific computing”. ICSC'2008 is sponsored by CASS, Division of Information and Electronic Engineering of Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Computer Federation, and co-sponsored by JSST, KSS,Federation of European Simulation Societies, International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, Society for Modeling and Simulation International, Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization, IEEE Beijing Section, IEEE Chengdu Section, National Natural Science Foundation of China. It is also a prolongation of the Beijing International Conferences on System Simulation and Scientific Computing sponsored by CASS since 1989. ICSC'2008 was organized by Beihang University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics).
Papers of the conference covered various branches in modeling and simulation(M&S) and scientific computing theories and technologies including networked M&S technology, M&S technology on synthesized environment and virtual reality environment, M&S technology of continuous system/discrete system/hybrid system/intelligent system/complex system and huge system,simulation-based acquisition/virtual prototyping engineering technology,high-performance computing and simulation technology, pervasive computing and simulation technology, embedded computing and simulation technology, simulator, intelligent computing and simulation technology, parallel and distributed software, VVA technology, CAD/CAE/CAM/CIMS/VP/VM/VR, computing and simulation applications in science/engineering/society/economics/management/energy/environment/life and biomedical engineering/military field/education, etc.
In total, 995 high-quality papers from about 20 countries and regions were submitted to the conference; 439 papers were accepted for inclusion in the conference program based on rigorous reviews by more than 150 reviewers from different countries and regions; 361 papers were orally presented in 48 parallel sessions; 78 papers were posted in the conference; 22 papers were selected as candidates of the special issue by the program committee of the conference; and 14 papers in extended version were included in the special issue after going through the standard peer-review process.
We would like to thank all the authors and reviewers for their contributions to this issue. We hope that this issue of COMPEL will provide interesting information to the readers.
