PCB Institute extends accreditation

Recognition of the competence and status of individuals in the PCB fabrication industry is set to be extended, following the introduction of a new Institute of Circuit Technology(ICT) accreditation initiative.

Complementing relevant experience and existing academic qualifications, ICT accreditation, which takes the form of stratified membership of the Institute, is now being offered to any individual employed by a PCIF member company who can demonstrate the appropriate level of knowledge and expertise. There are three levels of membership ­associate, member and fellow ­ each with its own set of entry requirements.

"Accreditation will be of benefit both to the individuals and their employers", said PCIF director Frank Coultard. "The individual will be able to have his knowledge, experience and employment value confirmed, while the employer's business gains by being seen to employ qualified professionals."

Unlike the other industry bodies which sit alongside it under the PCIF umbrella, the ICT concerns itself with issues that affect individuals rather than corporations. The emphasis is firmly on technical as opposed to commercial matters.

"The benefits of ICT membership are not confined to the recognition of competency and status", said ICT chairman, David Woodley. "The individual is able to take advantage of a range of services, including training, workshops, seminars/symposia and technical networking."

Applications for ICT membership from individuals with an interest in PCB fabrication who are not employed by PCIF member companies continue to be welcomed.
