The National Library of Mexico selects ALEPH 500
The National Library of Mexico (Biblioteca Nacional de México) and the Hemeroteca Nacional de México, the largest repositories of bibliographic and serial publications in Mexico, have signed a contract for the licensing and implementation of the ALEPH 500 library information system from Ex Libris.
The Hemeroteca Nacional de México (HNM) was founded in 1944 as part of the National Library for the purpose of compiling and preserving national and international press items as far back as the eighteenth century. The HNM, too,is located in the UNM (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México) Cultural Centre.
Co-ordinator Rosa Maria Fernández de Zamora of the National Library commented, "We are certain we have made the right choice by selecting the best library automation system available for our purposes." The HNM co-ordinator, Guadalupe Curiel Defossé, added, "ALEPH 500 will allow us to offer the highest quality services to our users. Ours will become the sixteenth national library in the world to use the ALEPH system."
Alfredo Bronsoiler, operations director of Grupo Sistemas Lógicas, the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris in Mexico and other Latin American countries, stated, "The National Library of Mexico and the HNM are unique institutions. The implementation of a system as powerful as ALEPH 500 at these prominent libraries represents a great challenge for our company. Thanks to the experience we have gained from successfully completing more than 50 ALEPH 500 projects in Latin America, including the National Library of Chile and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, we are confident that the objectives of the National Library and the HNM will be achieved."
