Identification and classification of risks in construction projects: clusters, trend studies and risk breakdown structure

Aynur Hurriyet Turkyilmaz has been working in the international construction company for 13 years and currently serves as a Cost Control Manager at the company’s headquarters. She earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), completed her master’s degree at Northeastern University (NEU) in Boston, and received her PhD from Istanbul Technical University (ITU). She has actively contributed to the field through research, publishing technical papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Her primary research interests include risk management, cost estimation methods in construction, machine learning applications, mathematical modeling for estimation, the integration of technology in construction, and various aspects of construction management.

Gul Polat is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. She conducted her PhD studies at Istanbul Technical University and Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. She has been involved with several research projects funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK), Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Feyzi Akkaya Fund for Supporting Scientific Activities (FABED), and other construction industry agencies. Her research work over the years has resulted in 166 technical papers in referred journals and proceedings. She has served over the years on several organizing committees of national and international conferences. Dr Polat is currently serving on the editorial board of an international journal and routinely reviews papers for several scholarly publications. Her main areas of research interest include decision support techniques, risk management, resource management, marketing management, precast concrete systems, and most aspects of construction management.
