European Directive on fixed-term work

A Directive to improve the quality of fixed-term employment has been proposed by the European Commission. It would put into EU law a voluntary agreement signed by European-level employers' and trade union organizations in March this year. It aims to ensure that people working on fixed-term contracts are not discriminated against (in relation to permanent employees). It also establishes an EU framework to prevent abuse arising from the use of successive fixed-term contracts or relationships.
