The primary objective of the Institution of Industrial Managers (IIM) is to improve the professionalism and performance of managers in industry, thus, by implication, helping to improve and promote the efficiency and productivity of many widely differing organisations. There is no doubt that the objective is a bold one, and, as a broad statement, can suggest great benefit to both individuals and organisations. Yet, at the same time, it implies a reputation which the institution has to live up to. Consequently, in the present climate of world activity, trade, recession, technological advance and development, the objective must continue to stand up to increasing scrutiny, not only from British industry, but in the countries in which IIM is continuing to develop its management education and training programmes.
