Describes and analyses the distinctive characteristics of a training programme to help women to re‐enter the labour market, skilled in methods of management using new technology. Launched in 1984 at University of Wales, Lampeter, it has a well‐defined rural catchment area whose remoteness has meant relatively little external complexity in the interaction of policies or intervention from other training providers. Highlights the importance in a rural area of interdependent,as well as independent, learning and also the value of providing comprehensive trainee support and of tracking European developments.
