Packaging becomes more professional

Packaging institutes representing 22,000 packers and 2,200 packaging companies and suppliers across Europe have promised to boost the standing of the industry through education and training.

They have established the European Packaging Institutes Consortium, which aims to develop European packaging qualifications and ways of implementing and enforcing packaging-related legislation.

John Webb-Jenkins, European Packaging Institutes Consortium chairman, said:"This is a giant step for an industry that has long operated on an international scale. Everything we do will not only be relevant to packaging professionals and the markets they serve, it will also promote the value of packaging to our society and the environment."
