The local electronic library: science fiction or the real future?

At the 1983 annual meeting of the National Federation of Abstracting and Indexing Services, considerable attention was given to the topic of downloading, the process by which users of external online databases capture and store the results of on‐line inquiries in local computers, for further manipulation or re‐use of the data.
