The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is the historical authority on the evolution of the English language. The mammoth work was created over a seventy year period. Originally published in 1928, the Oxford University Press brought out a twelve volume set in 1933, consisting of millions of words describing over 600,000 words of the language.
