Epilepsy is the first of hopefully many CD products to be a part of the Corel Medical series. This CD provides up‐to‐date information on the rapidly expanding area of epilepsy research, including pathology, definitions, classification, syndrome descriptions, psychosocial aspects, medical treatment with the latest drugs, and prognosis. The product features: MRIs, CT scans and EEGs; a detailed index; new drug analyses; a case study; complete bibliography and reference list; cut and paste capabilities for user projects; printing capabilities; illustrative digital video; full‐color illustrations; medical term definitions and pronunciations; and the ability to create, customize, and annotate personal slide shows, lectures, or presentations with CorelSHOW for Windows.
In addition to the Windows pull‐down menus, users can also search under keywords to find what they are looking for, as well as take multiple‐choice quizzes to determine level of knowledge. This CD works in both Windows and Macintosh environments. These types of products on individual diseases are definitely needed in the current marketplace. Often, patients and their families must find information on diagnoses from a number of different sources to eventually see only a fragmented picture of the disease and its treatment at the end of the process.
This CD is a useful and compact information source on epilepsy for medical students, physicians, neurology and psychiatry residents, nurses, and patients and their families. I hope that the Corel Medical Series will produce a number of these types of CDs on various other diseases and ailments that currently afflict large portions of the population. I found the CD easy to load and view. The information is very current and up‐to‐date.(I have a close childhood friend who has problems with epilepsy; so I can attest to the currency of the information). I would highly recommend this product and hope that future issues in this series are as informative and encyclopedic.
