Ways of creating a European higher-education area were explored by higher-education ministers from 29 countries who gathered in Prague, in the Czech Republic.

Talks centred on ways of making national higher-education systems more comparable, guaranteeing the quality of the level of education and developing a European dimension for higher-education systems. The meeting was chaired by the Swedish education minister, Thomas Ostros and the Czech minister for education and youth, Eduard Zeman. There were presentations by the National Union of Students in Europe (ESIB) and the Confederation of European Rectors.
