The author examines the reasons why physics is taught in schools and on the basis of his conclusions makes a strong case for the pruning and modernising of school physics syllabuses. There are obvious dangers in ignoring the need for keeping our science syllabuses up to the mark, and the present use of some examinations is also called into question, in this personal statement of view.
