To Crosland's 10/65 comprehensive circular must now be added a sublime piece of Departmental idiocy, circular 14/69. Hard on the heels of computers, teacher remuneration, and other matters of national import, we have it. From 1 to 6 May next year, Curzon Street has declared National Remember 1870 Week. Two commemorative lectures, an exhibition of school work, an orchestral work, and much local Maypole dancing will remind us of the centenary of the 1870 Education Act — particularly if we live in Everton, or Moss Side, or Stepney.
