A ‘careers textbook’ is how CRAC describes its latest publication for young people, teachers and parents, called 16+Choice: a guide to the decisions facing the 16 year old. The authors, Peter March and Michael Smith, see 16 as a crucial age. ‘Two years ago you made some decisions about school subjects. They may have presented difficulty but they only concerned one aspect of school life — the make up of your daily timetable. The choice which faces you now is different. Ft concerns what you are going to do next. Instead of selecting particular eggs from a quantity in a basket, you are now choosing between baskets and then selecting from the contents.’
