Every motor vehicle which is produced will have been subjected to testing at some stage, normally both during production and on completion. In addition almost every component part will itself have been tested during its own manufacturing process. The Road Transport Industry Training Board believes it is equally import ant that the individuals who will be responsible for maintaining and repairing these vehicles be tested themselves. Such testing is carried out to establish that the desired standard of performance has been achieved; but, more important from a training point of view, it can also be used to identify weaknesses in skills and knowledge which can then be rectified. As part of its progressive policy of improving training standards within the Industry, facilities for end‐of‐stage three testing were opened at the Board's two multi‐occupational training and education centres in High Ercall and Livingston in 1975. With the addition of the Greenford centre there are now facilities within the Board for testing up to 8,000 candidates a year.
