Practical Action, the appeal to industry and commerce for skills, equipment and manpower, is now helping some 19,000 young people throughout the country who would otherwise be unemployed. The scheme, which was launched in November 1978 by London's then Lord Mayor Sir Kenneth Cork, is funded by the Manpower Services Commission, private industry, trusts and charities, and is run under the aegis of the National Association of Youth Clubs. Some 210 organisations have so far made a positive response, and Practical Action is now working with some 130 separate youth unemployment projects, particularly those that form part of the MSC's Youth Opportunities Programme. Sir Kenneth, re‐launching the appeal last month, said:
