Northern Telecom, the second largest designer and manufacturer of telecommunications equipment in North America and sixth in the world, has introduced the Northern Telecom Five Continents Award in Canadian Studies consisting of a silver medal and a cash award of C$2,500. It fills a need for recognition of the work being done by young scholars, and also provides encouragement and incentive to those experts in Canadian studies who are working outside Canada and the United States. The award will be given annually to the scholar, writer, academic, teacher, or researcher who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to Canadian Studies in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia or South America.
