The speech by Dr T. Harper Smith, Headmaster of St Mark's Church of England School, London, aroused considerable interest at and beyond the June conference of the National Association of Head Teachers. These are his concluding remarks at the conference, together with the set of discussion points used in the London Head Teachers' Association in considering what matters should be covered by a national apprenticeship scheme. The conference, incidentally, was unanimous that a national scheme was necessary
