CENTRELESS GRINDING — a model for teaching the principles

The teaching of the principles of centreless grinding poses problems typical of those that beset lecturers in Production Engineering subjects. The machine tool in question costs over £2,000 and is naturally enough designed for production — not for demonstration. Its cycle times are fast, output is high and for safety the machine is usually well guarded, obscuring the mechanism. A great deal can be done with perspex covers and interior lighting, but even then little can be seen of the actual working of the machine.
