Significance
This followed the resignations of at least 22 more MPs earlier in the week over a long-running leadership dispute, leading to Nidaa Tounes's formal split into two rival factions on January 11. Mohsen Marzouk, the leader of the dissident Nidaa Tounes bloc, has promised to establish a new political party by March. Although Nidaa Tounes has now lost its plurality in parliament, the two rival parliamentary blocs have committed to remain in an alliance.

Further disputes within Nidaa Tounes are likely and more resignations will follow.
Industrial action and political demonstrations will spread in the months ahead.
Security threats remain a real concern: more terrorist attacks are likely.
