Outlook for China's civil aerospace industry.
Significance
China's long-delayed ARJ21 regional jet recently entered limited service with Chengdu Airlines. This will benefit the more important C919 airliner programme, which has slipped by another 18 months.
Impacts
Despite political pressure, China's aerospace sector will maintain a cautious approach, to avoid embarrassing technical failures.
Where they can, Chinese airlines will seek foreign suppliers and attempt to resist state pressure to use indigenous products.
The aerospace sector will enjoy even greater political backing if former COMAC chairman Zhang Qingwei joins the Politburo next year.
China's generous defence budget will help its civil aerospace programmes through investment in research and training.
