Significance
Rates of cargo theft in Mexico have undergone a sustained increase in recent months, with goods transiting through central states, and between the port in Veracruz and Mexico City, particularly affected. Robberies are causing firms’ costs to rise due both to the direct effects and to insurance premium hikes and disruption to operations on port, rail and road networks.
