Significance
The GNU has a limited mandate of ten months before it oversees elections on December 24. It will first need to organise a referendum on the controversial constitution draft of 2017, in a country awash with armed factions and entrenched interests.
Impacts
Different factions across the country will seek to align with the GNU to strengthen their respective political and military coalitions.
The GNU will struggle to secure approval from the divided parliament, further undermining its legitimacy.
Foreign powers can leverage the new government’s need to co-opt groups to increase their influence over the executive.
