Significance
The far-right Sweden Democrats' hardline stance on these issues once differentiated the party from the political mainstream. The ruling centre-left Social Democrats, like their Danish counterparts, have latterly adopted positions that were once synonymous with the far right.
Impacts
Should right-wing parties form the next government, polls suggest the Sweden Democrats will be the largest party.
Should the right win, Sweden would likely become one of the toughest EU countries in relation to asylum and migration policy.
The elections are unlikely to have any major significance regarding Swedish support for NATO or the EU.
