Significance

The attacks, the first in some weeks, highlighted Kyiv's vulnerability as the seat of power. President Volodymyr Zelensky has argued with Kyiv's mayor over emergency measures and intelligence officers have raided the city's most famous monastery to sniff out pro-Moscow clerics. Such turbulence disturbs a generally calm political scene where participants still avoid attacking Zelensky and the war effort.

Impacts

Zelensky's team will try to use the suspension of normal politics to consolidate his grip on power.

The Ukrainian armed forces enjoy wide public and political support, and none of the criticism levelled at the army in Russia.
