Significance

The strategy envisages the installation of 1,600 megawatts of renewable power generation capacity as well as investment into coal. Soaring prices and electricity shortages are putting pressure on Kosovo to upgrade its energy system. The country depends on lignite-burning power facilities which are insufficient to meet local demand and are at odds with EU rules.
