Significance
Most members have elected left-of-centre governments that are less committed than their predecessors to pro-business and globalising economic models. A damaging split between member countries over the rotating presidency has been temporarily resolved.
Impacts
Poor relations between Peru on the one hand and Mexico and Colombia on the other are set to persist.
Trade flows between PA member states will remain of secondary importance.
Other conduits for conducting trans-Pacific trade and investment are likely to take precedence over the PA.
