Significance
The PQ currently leads Quebec’s fragmented political parties and would be on course to form its next government if present trends continue, despite having won just four seats in Quebec’s 125-member National Assembly in 2022. The CAQ, once unassailable, looks increasingly vulnerable.
Impacts
The PQ will gradually become a centre-left nationalist party that does not threaten the territorial integrity of Canada.
Anglophones living in Quebec would move to other parts of Canada at a higher rate than at present under a PQ government.
Disaffected centre-right CAQ voters may support the Quebec Conservative Party, benefiting federal Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre.
