Significance
QE aims to increase its LNG output capacity to 142 mt/y by 2030. It is also investing in its oil fields and expanding the petrochemicals sector; expanding its upstream hydrocarbon presence globally; and leading Qatar’s renewable energy drive.
Impacts
QE will channel some of the gas saved through its renewables build-out into petrochemicals expansion.
The company will offer equity stakes in its third LNG expansion phase to persuade countries to sign long-term offtake deals.
LNG supply deals, and their terms, will be used as tools of diplomacy by both parties.
