Prospects for manufacturing in 2016.
Significance
Manufacturers can weather the global trade slowdown in 2016, but overall sales growth will remain weak. Slowing global demand and increasing levels of competition emphasise the importance of innovation-led strategies for sales growth on the part of final goods manufacturers and their suppliers. However, economic uncertainty and downward pricing pressures are pushing manufacturers to reduce costs, improve efficiencies in their innovation systems and supply chains, and speed up product-to-market commercialisation.
