Significance
The Super Tuesday primaries allocate about 20% of the Democratic delegates and more than 25% of the Republican delegates for the presidential nomination contests. Solid wins on March 1 help both party's front runners minimise the scope for their closest challengers to stage comebacks and put pressure on lagging candidates to drop out.
