Significance
Also yesterday, electoral authorities were asked to disqualify second-placed Pedro Pablo Kuczynski because he had given out beer at a campaign rally. They find themselves on the horns of a dilemma: to bar Fujimori and possibly Kuczynski at this late stage would damage the legitimacy of the result; not to do so risks the court being accused of inconsistency in its judgements, having previously excluded another candidate, Cesar Acuna, on the same grounds.
Impacts
Opinion polls show that many voters are still undecided.
The Congress elected on April 10 will see no party with an outright majority.
A presidential run-off vote in June is probable.
The campaign between now and then will show strong volatility in voter preferences.
