Significance
The two main objectives of the reform are to speed up asylum procedures and reduce costs. Asylum seekers will also be provided with free legal assistance.
Impacts
The new procedures are likely to facilitate faster integration of migrants into the labour market.
The reform will relieve pressure on cantons, as most cases will be dealt with in federal centres.
It is expected that the reform will lead to savings of 110 million Swiss francs (114 million dollars) per year.
