Subject
Prospects for Southern Africa in 2017.
Significance
While there are few polls in 2017, incumbent presidents in Angola, South Africa and Zimbabwe will struggle to stifle opposition both within and outside party ranks. Regionally, GDP growth will remain depressed while energy and metal prices are forecast to improve marginally. Normal to above-normal rainfall in the October-March season is expected to break the drought across most of the region.
