Sudan's foreign relations.
Significance
Relations between Sudan and Western countries remain generally poor, albeit less frosty than during the previous decade. Relations are significantly coloured by Western concerns about ongoing conflict in Sudan, US economic sanctions (in place since 1997) and the International Criminal Court’s investigation into violence in Darfur, which has produced two arrest warrants for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
Impacts
Agricultural opportunities will attract some investor interest from the Gulf.
The government will continue to press for reduced peacekeeping presence.
Relations with Juba may deteriorate if the conflict in South Sudan deepens.
