Significance
The government’s composition, and its underlying parliamentary alliances, are very similar to those of the previous government led by former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who resigned after a clear defeat in the constitutional reform referendum of December 4. The referendum vote has undone three years of work invested in a major overhaul of the Italian constitution.
