Significance

India’s Supreme Court on August 25 agreed to hear a petition to remove constitutional provisions granted to permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir state. Pakistan is seeking to revive UN resolutions demanding a plebiscite in Kashmir. The region is at risk of becoming a pawn in rival schemes of geostrategy.
