Prospects for US politics in 2018.

Significance

The most favourable window for President Donald Trump and the Republican congressional majorities to pass legislation will close as the November 6, 2018 elections approach. Trump is a master at placing himself at centre stage and the midterms will be cast as a referendum on the president’s leadership. The Democrats hope to see whether Trump’s record unfavourable ratings, and casting Republican policy initiatives as establishment orthodoxy cloaked in populist talk, can deliver a partisan wave.
