Significance
President Hassan Rouhani’s government will be increasingly preoccupied with the international politics surrounding the 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Efforts to manage US President Donald Trump’s wider strategy to contain Iranian regional influence will impact domestic factional politics and economic growth in Tehran, weakening Rouhani.
