Prospects for Brazil to end-2018.
Significance
A highly fragmented Brazil goes to the polls in October for its most uncertain general elections in decades. The vote will take place after several years of profound economic crisis and ever-widening corruption scandals that have destroyed the reputations of almost the entire political mainstream. The government of President Michel Temer, supported by 3% of the population and without leverage in Congress, has lost its ability to pursue any meaningful reform. The economy has frustrated hopes that it would pick up steam this year.
